Telescope Pi is a printable adapter to use a Raspberry Pi camera with any 1.25" telescope for astrophotography.

The inner diameter allows this adapter to be used with most eyepiece filters. This adapter has mounting holes for the Raspberry Pi B, Raspberry Pi B+, Raspberry Pi B 2/3, and Raspberry Pi Zero as well as grooves to mount a Raspberry Pi in a case using rubber bands.

This is a work in progress and my first published thing. If you find any flaws or have suggestions for improvements, please let me know.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

FlashForge

Printer:

FlashForge Creator Pro

Rafts:

Doesn't Matter

Supports:

Yes

Infill:

7-10%

Post-Printing

Remove the Camera Lens

In order to be used for astrophotography, the lens on the Pi camera must be carefully removed. The lens can be unscrewed easily using a pair of pliers. Do not remove the lens until the camera is about to be installed into the adapter to avoid getting dust on the camera sensor. A dust cap model has been included to protect the sensor.

Install Raspberry Pi Camera into Telescope Pi

Feed the ribbon cable through the slit on the side of the adapter then place the camera inside the bottom cutout face down so the sensor is centered in the square opening. Secure the camera in place using machine screws.

Software Setup

I recommend interfacing with the camera using the RPi Cam Web Interface software. Connect to the Raspberry Pi with a laptop or smart phone directly by using an ethernet cable or wirelessly by using Wi-Fi with the Raspberry Pi acting as a local access point.

Category: Physics & Astronomy
