telescope filter adpater
thingiverse
I'm creating my first file in OpenSCAD and it's been a wild ride so far. I snagged an incredible telescope along with a top-of-the-line solar filter at an unbelievable price - the only catch being that the filter is too small for my trusty telescope. Not one to be discouraged, I decided to give making an adapter a shot, designing something that would fit snugly around the outside of the telescope aperture and smoothly into the filter rim. It's basically a reducer, reducing the diameter of the filter so it fits perfectly. Initially, things didn't go as planned. Since OpenSCAD doesn't come equipped with built-in measurement units, my first set of files was riddled with errors when I tried importing them into Cura to produce G-Code. That's when I discovered that scaling down the object had reduced its thickness along with its size - and who needs a thin adapter when you're trying to block sunlight? So, I created a new design with double the original thickness, ensuring that it wouldn't crumble when scaled back to size. This adapter isn't about being waterproof or any such thing; all I need is for it to be opaque so the sunlight doesn't peek through. That said, I'm working on setting up some print settings to make this happen.
