Telescope Cable Guide Bracket
thingiverse
Equatorial GOTO telescopes possess the capability to point towards any direction in the sky. When utilized for astrophotography, they are accompanied by several cables (cameras, heaters, focusers etc.) that run from the telescope to the mount tripod base. These cables must be able to rotate freely with the telescope and not snag or bind on any of the mount features. When this occurs, the RA and/or DEC drive motors stall, resulting in a loss of alignment and an extremely long and frustrating evening! I have experimented with various cable orientations for my Explore Scientific EXOS-II mount paired with the ES102CF refractor telescope. The most effective configuration I discovered is to have the cables emerge from the north end of the cradle dovetail bar. However, there are no straightforward mounting features available to retain the cable on the dovetail bar, so I designed a component that slides over the dovetail end. No fasteners are required, and the cradle U-feature provides ample space to hold all commonly used cables. I even wrap mine in plastic spiral wrap to keep them organized. This bracket is specifically designed for the Explore Scientific Vixen style dovetail bar but may also fit on other brand V-bars. I have included a Word document with the dimensions utilized in this design, enabling you to verify compatibility if needed.
