Teleprompter Brickhouse – Solid Platform for DSLR/Full Frame Camera & Mobile Device
thingiverse
This is a teleprompter built around my Sony A7iii with the kit lens (FE 3.5-5.6/28-70). This project is still evolving as I add flexibility for other camera platforms and lenses. The design goal is to create an "overbuilt" that doesn't require much fiddling to get everything set up each time – just plug in your phone and attach the camera. This teleprompter accommodates a large mobile device, such as an iPhone XS Max with this case: thing:3126361. The glass dimensions are 117mm x 168mm. I sourced the glass from a standard picture frame. I've designed this teleprompter with interlocking parts that don't need supports. In my prototype, I simply held it together with tape as shown in the picture. However, I've modeled in threaded inserts that can be melted into the glass holder using a soldering iron so some components can be secured with machine screws. I designed this base to be rigid, making the camera and teleprompter a single solid unit. The tripod mounting plate is designed to be attached with M3 flat-head screws into a tripod mount adapter. In this design, I've modeled my tripod mount adapter that accommodates threaded inserts which can be melted in using a soldering iron. Also modeled into the base are two spots to melt in 1/4-20 threaded inserts (also to be melted in via soldering iron) so any tripod mount adapter can be attached. To fit your camera body or lens: The lens shade is designed as a slotted insert, allowing it to be modified to accommodate other lens diameters. The camera mount is slotted to receive a 1/4-20 counter-sunk screw of the appropriate length. Shims can be added to increase height if needed. Mounting to tripod: Either utilize the holes to melt-in a threaded insert or design and remix your own tripod mount to mate with the camera/phone platform. Parts needed: * Qty: 1, 1/4-20 UNC threads, counter-sunk head screw to attach camera (length will vary depending on how much height is needed to support your camera) * Qty: 4, 6mm, M3 threaded insert to receive lid screws * Qty: 4, M3 counter-sunk head screw for lid * Qty: 2, 6mm, M3 threaded insert to receive tripod mount attachment screws (optional) * Qty: 2, M3 socket head cap screws to attach tripod mount (optional) Updates I'm considering: * Tweak the centering of the camera lens in the insert for default setup * Reduce the height of the camera mounting point to offer more flexibility for height adjustments for other body/lens combinations * Consider a threaded insert to affix the glass holder to the base in addition to the current 'dovetail' * Consider dust cover options
