Telemachus is a pivotal figure in Greek mythology, born to Odysseus and Penelope, and plays a leading role in Homer's Odyssey. The initial four books of the Odyssey center on Telemachus' quest for information about his father, who remains absent after the Trojan War, earning them the title of the Telemachy. As the son of Odysseus and Penelope, Telemachus was left behind when his father embarked for the Trojan War. Upon maturity, Telemachus was one of the first to identify Odysseus upon his eventual return to Ithaca. He then actively assisted his father in the elimination of Penelope's suitors. Bienaimé created two copies of Telemachus Arming, now housed at the Hermitage.
