These guards help to keep debris from getting under the body collecting behind the motor. I added some features to separate the pinion gear from any wires passing by in the event you want/need to locate the transmitter to the back of the car. I have a MambaX which is a large ESC and doesn't allow the ESC and transmitter to be located ahead of the motor. I incorporated an antenna holder on the right guard and a pass through for servo wires while still keeping them retained. On the left side I had to make it a bit different in order to allow the battery strap thumbscrew to be easily turned.
