Tefifon Replacement Part: Mat

Tefifon Replacement Part: Mat

prusaprinters

<p>The original mats of Tefifions were made of a material that unfortunately has not survived the decades well:</p><figure class="image image_resized" style="width:97.9%;"><img src="https://media.prusaprinters.org/media/prints/71529/rich_content/91b3549f-1475-4af2-ba41-706c1717b1ca/vanished.jpg#%7B%22uuid%22%3A%225165fe31-d30c-49bb-89bc-153f26edd4c0%22%2C%22w%22%3A996%2C%22h%22%3A766%7D"></figure><p>So I designed a 3D printable replacement part that mimics the design of the original as closely as possible:</p><figure class="image"><img src="https://media.prusaprinters.org/media/prints/71529/rich_content/4bd09b7a-1a29-4160-ab3b-6a44948c1d95/new1.jpg#%7B%22uuid%22%3A%226cf84bd1-223d-48ec-9c00-6f4c946c677b%22%2C%22w%22%3A809%2C%22h%22%3A603%7D"></figure><p>The key to the design was:</p><ul><li>to get the color right. But nobody knows the exact color. So I suspect it is a mixture of bronze and the darkened color of the degenerate remains (see photo above).</li><li>to have a soft, cushioning surface on which the cassette rests.</li></ul><p>I achieved this by:</p><ul><li>Printing the part with a color change from black PETG to bronze PETG, so that the bronze is a bit darkened by the black layers below.</li><li>Coating the surface with matte, transparent spray rubber (available in car accessories stores).</li></ul><h3><strong>Printing</strong></h3><p>I have printed the part using these PETG filaments:</p><ul><li>PrimaSelect Bronze</li><li>dasfilament black</li></ul><p>There are two color changes: Start with bronze, switch to black and then go back to bronze.</p><p>The settings in the 3MF file and the part orientation are optimized in a lot of ways to achieve the best result possible. So I recommend using the provided 3MF file to start from. &nbsp; If you want to use a different slicer, then here are the key settings:</p><ul><li>0.15mm layer height (first layer 0.2mm)</li><li>Filament changes at:<ul><li>0.65mm from bronze to black PETG</li><li>0.95 mm from black to bronze PETG</li></ul></li><li>Fill angle 135°</li><li>Avoid crossing perimeters, detect thin walls, seam position rear</li><li>Ironing on all top surfaces</li><li>Add a height modifier for 0.9 to 2.0 mm &nbsp;to turn ironing off for the topmost layers</li></ul><figure class="image"><img src="https://media.prusaprinters.org/media/prints/71529/rich_content/27940ed2-25b8-4725-b049-38d246b02e88/slicer_mat.png#%7B%22uuid%22%3A%22c53fd64c-6ada-4d37-9661-ab5ce7263858%22%2C%22w%22%3A1273%2C%22h%22%3A928%7D"></figure><h3>Post-Processing</h3><p>The surface of the printed part is to hard and does not provide any grip. So I recommend coating with matte, transparent spray rubber:</p><figure class="image"><img src="https://media.prusaprinters.org/media/prints/71529/rich_content/e551998a-72b8-4af1-a998-d9176c34dcab/spray.jpg#%7B%22uuid%22%3A%22ba4f32ee-74df-41fa-807a-37ec935a7e5c%22%2C%22w%22%3A1136%2C%22h%22%3A728%7D"></figure><p>Before coating, I removed all fingerprints and dust with isopropanol. The part should be slightly elevated for coating.</p><p>I then applied a total of 6 coats, 15 minutes apart. To get an even application, i sprayed over the part from all four sides for each coat. Let the part dry for at least a day.</p><h3>Attaching</h3><p>I have attached the mat to my tefifon using Marabu Fixogum elastic adhesive:</p><figure class="image"><img src="https://media.prusaprinters.org/media/prints/71529/rich_content/3b629031-188f-46a9-abfe-dd1fa5a6b713/glue.jpg#%7B%22uuid%22%3A%227cb42309-ceb1-4836-9a31-29aeba9b5242%22%2C%22w%22%3A860%2C%22h%22%3A597%7D"></figure><p>This way, you can easily pull off the mat again later, for example, if you want to access the screws underneath.</p><h3>Result</h3><p>I am now very happy with the result:</p><figure class="image"><img src="https://media.prusaprinters.org/media/prints/71529/rich_content/382c87c9-a3bf-45d8-bb77-c18342b13520/attached.jpg#%7B%22uuid%22%3A%2220c63274-dc3d-43d6-888a-b1046ef41c9b%22%2C%22w%22%3A1026%2C%22h%22%3A684%7D"></figure><figure class="image"><img src="https://media.prusaprinters.org/media/prints/71529/rich_content/5f076086-99b0-41ca-9a9b-3f774443e378/detail.jpg#%7B%22uuid%22%3A%22a20f8313-49a9-497b-a367-2f7b67ccbd76%22%2C%22w%22%3A972%2C%22h%22%3A648%7D"></figure><h3><strong>Design and Source Code</strong></h3><p>The part has been designed using OpenSCAD. I have provided the source code for download.</p><h3><strong>Happy printing!</strong></h3><p>If you like this design, then <strong>please leave a like</strong> and also <strong>post a photo in the comments</strong>.</p><p>Looking for more Tefifon related stuff?
