Teapot lid
thingiverse
A while back, my cherished teapot lid (a family heirloom that's been around for over two decades) met its untimely demise, leaving me to repair it with my trusty Prusa. I took this opportunity to experiment with a fresh workflow. The lid, boasting radial symmetry (its symmetrical group is O(2) for those in the math know), made it an ideal project for OpenSCAD's rotate_extrude feature. To get the perfect outline for extrusion, I used Inkscape, carefully tracing by eye, assisted by a photo. The Inkscape to OpenSCAD extension then handled the bulk of the work. I added support material for the lid's "lip" and knob, ensuring it would come off easily. One of the tricky parts was carving out a small notch in the knob support within OpenSCAD, as there is no built-in feature for partial rotate_extrude.
