So I have been far too laid-back to head to the local hobby store to shell out $20 for a tiny little chunk of plastic, so my DEX410R has been collecting dust off the table for roughly 3 months now. I know, I know. A few days back, I bought a $20 pair of dial calipers from a flea market so all I need to fork over is 20 minutes and ~600 mm of filament now. Also included is a tweaked version of the suspension bracket featuring a bumper that protrudes about an inch out front and approximately 2 inches on either side of center for some added protection to your front suspension and A-arms, without getting in the way of your wheels. If you do encounter any issues with the wheels scraping against the bumper, just comment below and I will make the necessary adjustments before I print it out myself. Print Settings Rafts: Yes Supports: Yes Resolution: 100 microns Infill: 100% Notes: Print with a 5 mm brim to ensure that everything stays in place properly. The regular bracket requires a full 100% infill since it is quite a small piece and can take quite the beating (whenever I happen to be using it). I haven't printed out the modified bumper yet, but I recommend at least 60% infill on that particular one. You see, the rods supporting the bumper actually provide added reinforcement exactly where the pivot point needs fixing up. In regards to supports, both need printing with default supports all around (everywhere), however, they're not truly essential except in cases of the custom bumper. Post-Printing Just take care to clean up all of those surfaces using a razor blade after printing out the models. Installed! Bear in mind I am staying over at my parents for now – no need to complain since you can't blame a guy who's still attending high school right? How I came up with This Design First and foremost: Rule #1 for every single student out there should always be "spend the least amount possible." As I've shown above, Sketchup Make does it all in conjunction with $20 calipers purchased from that local flea market – it turns out 3D printing really is affordable. I was more than amazed to find that Google Sketchup (specifically its free version) will indeed read precise dimensions down to an incredible one millionth of an inch right there inside its very own 3D printing template.
