If you pair the direct drive with the brass C-block, it becomes impossible to mount a fan near the motor without some form of spacer in place. This file was used to space the fan up slightly and clear the brass C-block while still allowing it to fit inside the body. I am currently using a Jconcepts F2, but it's uncertain whether other models will be compatible. The layback transmission requires this spacer, whereas the laydown has sufficient room for a fan to fit without any issues.
