Teal Drone Parachute Launcher
thingiverse
Ever had your drone plummeting to its death at tens of yards in the air because the battery suddenly ran out? Fear no more! Just find a 5V power source, build a small parachute that suits your needs, and grab some code to make it deploy automatically. When your drone starts falling towards Earth, the altimeter will kick in and deploy the parachute. This requires some experimentation on your part, but it might just be worth it. And what's great about this is you're in control. If you use a commercial drone parachute, it may not work as planned. For instance, if you fly high, it might deploy too soon and send your drone flying half a mile with the wind, or if you fly at a low but treacherous height, it might not deploy quickly enough. With this setup, you get to set it up exactly how you want it. Whatever you try, keep in mind that this isn't guaranteed to work perfectly. Designed with experimentation in mind, though not strictly necessary: http://www.mouser.com/ds/2/321/29124-Altimeter-Module-Documentation-v1.0-370403.pdf https://www.adafruit.com/product/1501 The base is sturdy enough that you can screw small parts into it. NOT TESTED!!! And yes, it does bear a resemblance to my timer holder. But why reinvent the wheel when you can just modify it?
