I decided to see how much an insulated head would impact the heating of my Taz5 Hexhead. Honestly, I couldn't notice a significant improvement in heating from room temperature to 240C. However, I did observe about a 10 percent reduction in cooling rate. If you're pushing your extruder to its limits and struggling with heat filament, this could provide some help. Keep in mind that results may vary, so give it a try. To release the silicone, just apply wax to the model's head - paste wax or clear polish works well. I coated the model with a 2-3mm layer of silicone, working my way around it. To smooth out the applied silicone, I dipped my finger in a cup of Isopropyl Alcohol. For the final version, I used J-B WELD Red Hi-Temp RTV, but plain old clear silicone handled 240 degrees at least for a quick test. After it sets up - which can take over 24 hours - you just need to trim it to fit on the model and slip it off. The pictures should explain the process well enough. Best regards, Steve
