Taz5-6 Stepper Encoder

This is a quadrature encoder that can be mounted on the spare hole of the TAZ5-6 extruder stepper. Stick on the pattern and mount with one 3mm screw.

This is for my filament length creation but may be of use for other applications. I stick a encoder pattern to the stepper drive gear of my Taz5 and mount to OPN761N opto's to create a quadrature encoder. It gives 24 steps per revolution. The sensors run at 5 volts but the open collector outputs drive a 3v3 volt micro with the pullups on. The pattern is based on 30 degree segments. The encoder's opto's are set 60 degrees apart plus 15 degrees so the encoder transitions are at different times. This seemed to be the most reliable using the relatively broad beam of the opto's used.

The eagle files are included. Print the encoder pattern from the pdf file. I used double sided tape to attach the pattern to the bottom of the gear. Stick the white leader on first and then wrap it around.

The board is available through Oshpark.com

Cheer

KIsssys
Category: 3D Printer Accessories
