TAZ hexagon Hotend 40mm Fan Mount
thingiverse
Update 5/31/15 This is the final version; my machine has been happily printing for a full week with zero issues. Update 5/24/15 I made changes to the design after receiving feedback. The open end of the funnel section is larger now, covering the bottom part of the heat sync. It's up and running today; so far so good but have not pushed it yet. A big difference exists between the original fan at 0.57cfm and the new one at 4.83cfm. I've seen issues with heat creep since the TAZ printer started using the Hex hotend. This is caused by that tiny fan being unable to keep it properly cooled for long prints. I tackled this issue by making my own mount; now I have a TAZ 4 with the Hexagon Hotend upgrade, which is what I designed this for. I'm not 100% sure it will fit on the TAZ 5 but I think it might work. This took 8 hours of design and around 5 prints to get right. I don't have my fan yet; should be here tomorrow. I'm fairly confident it will work properly. I wanted to stick with a 5v fan since the wiring is already there. I also looked for one that was quiet, long-lasting and not from China but Austria since they last longer and are built better than the Chinese ones. Noctura makes a great 5v fan; high-end computer builders recommend it and said the NF-A4x10 was ugly since it's brown and off-white, their signature design is the signature of this brand which lasts forever. The fan shroud fits around the cooling fins by friction but also has a single bolt mount using the existing hotend bolt. I would like to know if this works on the TAZ 5 or the TAZ Mini so you can use it. This is a work in progress, it might end up being the final design; until then, please let me test it fully. Instructions: Print solid with support. Turn your printer's support angle to 60 degrees so that I get to fully support my inner cone area completely now. Remove the tiny existing extruder fan, remove the left bolt that holds the hotend on, place the new fan mount onto the hexagon hotend as shown in the pictures. Then replace the extruder bolt through the new leg of the mount, done.
