I've got the firmware all set up and humming along on my Taz 5. This is the latest version of Marlin 1.1.8.4, dating back to February 12th, 2018. This updated firmware employs Linear Advance to minimize blobbing at edges, plus a Filament Runout Sensor utilizing the X-Max End stop for precision. The modification itself is straightforward and easy to find online with just a quick search. To get started, be sure to Calibrate Extruder settings, run a PID Auto-tune for both Nozzle and Bed, and calibrate the K Value for Linear Advance as well. Detailed instructions on these steps can also be found all over the internet, including the Marlin Firmware Info page for the Linear Advance calibration.
