Tarmo 3 Torque Damper Remix with springs
thingiverse
I tested the original torque damper and the remix, but I was still tearing apart parts left and right. Upon closer inspection, the torsion spring in the dampers wasn't providing any gradual resistance to the input gear; instead, it was slamming into the output shaft with added speed and momentum, which only contributed to the destruction, or so I thought. Considering this, I modified the design of the first remix to accommodate 2 stainless steel compression springs. Since installing them, I haven't experienced a single drive train failure, and the wheels no longer shake loose on launch nearly as often. The springs are 25mm x 8mm in size; I salvaged them from empty shampoo and hand soap pump dispensers, although something similar can be acquired at a local hardware store, and they don't need to be exactly the same. I'm thinking of adding a small amount of grease to the inside of the damper to help keep the springs from wearing on the gear, but it's holding up well so far.
