The Tarkin, also known as the Tarkin Project, was an Imperial superweapon designed in the image of the first Death Star battlestation, paying tribute to Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin's legacy. The Tarkin integrated the first Death Star's devastating capabilities into a single system, featuring a planet-destroying ionic cannon superlaser paired with a defensive shield generator and powerful engines. Imperial engineer Bevel Lemelisk spearheaded the Tarkin's design at Emperor Palpatine's request, following the destruction of the Death Star in the Battle of Yavin, as a prototype for testing advanced technologies to be used in the Eclipse-class Super Star Destroyer, a massive warship equipped with a ship-mounted superlaser.
