Taramelliceras (Metahaploceras) - Jurassic superior, Oxfordiense superior, approximately 155 million years old. Sierra de Segura, Jaén. Class Cephalopoda, Subclass Ammonoidea, Order Ammonitida, Superfamily Haplocerataceae, Family Oppelidae. Haploceratids, to which the genus Taramelliceras belongs, are relatively involuted ammonites that lived mainly in open marine platforms. They are characterized by having a relatively compressed shell with an ornamentation formed by thick, low-relief shells that bifurcate or trifurcate at mid-flank, becoming falcate ribs that traverse the ventral region. In some Taramelliceras, tubercles develop on the marginoventral border. CEA Tierra-UJA. Institute of Gironese Studies. Projects 2018
