Tapered Tube for Isotropic Vector Matrix Construction

Tapered Tube for Isotropic Vector Matrix Construction

thingiverse

This intricately designed tube strut can be utilized for construction within an Isotropic Vector Matrix, a space-filling network of continuously alternating octahedra and tetrahedra. The tapered tube features rhomboid shaped podiums at its ends that collectively form the surface of a spherical rhombic dodecahedron. Joining surfaces adjacent to the obtuse angle will create the vertex of a tetrahedron, while joining surfaces adjacent to the same angle will also create the vertex of an octahedron. For maximum strength, print solid with adequate infill. However, for aesthetic appeal, print in spiralized mode using clear filament. The model displayed is printed spiralized with clear filament via a 0.4mm nozzle. As individual struts, they are relatively fragile but become significantly stronger once glued together. The images and video above showcase 36 struts built around a central node of a vector equilibrium, forming a cuboctahedron. The file for the end caps used to cover incomplete nodes is also provided.
