Tapered Print In Place Tentacles
thingiverse
I've completely revamped the tentacles for Ellindsey's Ball_joint articulated Octopus to feature cylindrical shapes that taper from the original body joint down to about half the diameter at the ends. They're now printed in place with just one push fit joint for the body. This redesign came about because I didn't want to print individual parts, so I checked the original for remixes and found that no one had made print-in-place tentacles. However, someone had created tapered tentacles consisting of nearly a hundred unique parts. I liked those tapered tentacles, so I tried modifying the original meshes but decided it would be easier to just remake them. I lengthened each section to accommodate suckers and enable a long taper without ball-joints becoming too small after multiple iterations. I've included two different styles: With Suckers: "New Tentacle Sucker.stl" Without Suckers: "New Tentacle Smooth.stl" I've also included non-tapered cylindrical pieces so you can make them longer by inserting more between the body joint and the new tentacles, just like the original. The new print-in-place joints are spherical and have more play than the original push fit joints. This makes them one of my favorite prints to hold and play with - it's very fluid and therapeutic feeling. It also produces a nice jingling sound when printed in PLA. I've used these tentacles with "More Realistic Octopus Body" by Stanos, but they'll work with any original head or remix that uses the original tentacles. Print Settings: Printer: Tantillus Rafts: Yes Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.4 x 0.15 or less Notes: At the uploaded size, the last joint must be printed with a narrow path (0.4mm or less). The prints in the pictures are 130% size and printed with a 0.5mm resolution.
