I upgraded the tape components to ensure a seamless assembly process. Additionally, I reinforced the tape tip slide to make it more substantial. I print with 100% infill, using either ABS or PLA, without support structures. 2/2/2019. The PVC tape measure Yagi-Uda antenna is a popular amateur radio project for transmitter hunting. I created these parts to eliminate the need for PVC joints and hose clamps. You will still require a PVC pipe rod to mount these parts securely. I included screw holes in the bases, eliminating the need for glue. Long M3 hex machine screws were used to attach the covers. The six tips can be used to protect you from the sharp tape measure edges or ends. The second tip slot may be used to loop the tape and make it slide into place smoothly. (see photo, red tip) This feature is useful for storage and possibly tuning. You will need to account for extra length of tape in the loop configuration. The loop mode is experimental. Use a marker to indicate the correct length for each element. Print two sets of the DR parts: one set for the director and one for the reflector. Print one set of the DE parts (DE stands for Driven Element). I utilized a length of Romex wire, stripping off the insulation for the hairpin. You can use regular 50 ohm BNC cable and cut off one connector end to connect to the antenna. You may need an attenuator. Attenuation is not part of this project. I printed the bases on the side and the covers flat. The tips were printed standing straight up to help ensure the slots don't clog and fit the tape measure perfectly. 50 to 100% infill seems acceptable. I successfully soldered the tape measure material using a solder gun. I sanded off the paint from the tape, then applied lots of flux before tinning the tape end. Be sure to pre-tin the soldered parts and then assemble and solder the coax, hairpin & tape quickly to avoid overheating the PLA excessively. Instructions by Joe Leggio WB2HOL are available online for the PVC version. In keeping with ham tradition, these parts were designed specifically for the Harbor Freight free-with-purchase coupon 25 foot tape measure. Enjoy! WA6ED
