Tank Track, Idler Sprocket and Hub

More versatile components to complement Tank Track 2in and associated parts for crafting a highly responsive RC or robotic tank experience. This pivotal piece is the idler sprocket that integrates seamlessly into the free-spinning end of the track from the drive sprocket. Utilizing 1/4"x3/8"x1/8" sealed ball bearings and a 1/4" shaft with lock collar/spacer or 1/4" shoulder bolt, it's an integral part of the tank's mobility and performance. Secure the hub to the sprocket using #4 sheet metal screws. A brilliant concept that spawned this project is the track tensioner, drawing inspiration from the Howe and Howe Rip Saw Tank's ability to absorb bumps and maintain traction. By employing a track tensioner like this one, you can ensure your tank remains stable even with long travel suspension. The design allows for seamless traversal of uneven terrain. Crafting the tensioner arm and shaft requires some ingenuity – utilize a 1/4" bolt and 1/2" flat steel to create a robust and adjustable mechanism. Attach an arm welded to a lock collar and spring to maintain optimal track tension, while ensuring the spring is sturdy enough to counteract the tank's weight when reversing. Strike a balance between track tension and flexibility to adapt to minor obstacles. Integrate the tensioner shaft through a 1/8" aluminum frame, bolstered by bushings (1/4"IDx3/8"ODx1/2" long with flange) sourced from True Value. For added stability, print a 3D support for the bolt in the tank's middle section using 1/4" bearings. This second design iteration placed the shaft further forward on the frame and angled the arms to reduce impact force during high-speed traversals. I'm excited to see other innovative approaches to track tensioners – let your creativity shine! Enhance the idler sprocket experience with a hub cap that securely fastens using #2 screws, drilling (2) holes in the sprocket to hold it in place. Instructions: Ensure adequate support and raft for the hub. Sprocket printing requires neither raft nor support.
