The Soviet T-40 amphibious scout tank, utilized in World War II, was a light, river-crossing vehicle armed with a 12.7mm DShK machine gun. Primarily designed for reconnaissance units, a land-based version, the T-40S (later T-60), was produced; however, it was surpassed by its cheaper, simpler counterpart in terms of armament and roles. The T-40 saw action during Operation Barbarossa and Moscow's defense but was rarely deployed post-1943. Interestingly, 44 units were retrofitted with Katyusha rocket launchers.
