The Soviet experimental heavy tank, Object 279 Green, was developed at the Kirov Plant in Leningrad during late 1959. Engineer L. Troyanov led a team that began work on this unique tank based on 1956's heavy tank operational requirements. Featuring four-track running gear mounted on fuel tanks, the vehicle boasted increased cross-country capabilities, with a ground pressure of only 0.6 kg/cm². The 60 metric ton tank was powered by a 1000 hp diesel engine, enabling speeds of up to 55 km/h and an active range of 300 km. Additionally, it had auto fire-fighting systems, smoke laying equipment, and a heating and cooling system for the combat compartment.
