The ISU-122, a Russian heavy self-propelled gun, was developed at Chelyabinsk Kirov Plant in December 1943. It shared its chassis with the ISU-152 but differed in armament, featuring an A-19S 122-mm gun instead of the ISU-152's ML-20S gun-howitzer. The installation of the A-19 gun on the ISU-152 chassis created the first ISU-122 prototype, 'Object 242,' which underwent successful testing. However, it wasn't immediately launched into mass production due to a lack of ML-20S tubes. State authorities ordered uncompleted hulls armed with an A-19 gun, and the ISU-122 was officially adopted for Red Army service on 12 March 1944. The first series of ISU-122s rolled off production lines at ChKZ in April 1944.
