The Tangram Puzzle Box for Kids and Adults. The Tangram (Chinese: literally, seven boards of skill; pinyin: qīqiǎobǎn) is a dissection puzzle made up of seven flat shapes, called tans. Players put the pieces together to form specific shapes based on an outline or silhouette. The objective is to create a particular shape using all seven pieces without overlapping them. The Tangram originated in China during the Song Dynasty and was carried over to Europe by trading ships in the 19th century. It quickly gained popularity there, especially during World War I. Today it remains one of the world's most popular dissection puzzles. A Chinese psychologist has identified the Tangram as "the earliest psychological test" due to its ability to reveal insights into human thinking and problem-solving skills.
