The sun's outer layer, known as the corona, is comprised of scorching hot ionized gas (plasma) that reaches temperatures exceeding one million degrees. The powerful magnetic field of the sun molds the coronal gas into majestic arches and loops. A dramatic scene unfolds as two magnetic loops in the solar corona undergo a transformation, their density shifting as they twist at their base due to turbulent gas motions on the sun's surface.
