Tamiya Double Gearbox Lego Mount (Simpler Version 2)
thingiverse
V2 Info: I created a compact and straightforward mount using two rectangular bars with holes for connector pegs. This design is much simpler and easier to print, as well as use. The holes conform to Lego specifications, and the two pieces should be positioned 56mm apart when pressed together. This model has several hidden features. Credit goes to Josh B's "Tamiya Twin Gearbox 70168" design; Wolfheart's "Lego 3701" and "Lego 3703"; and an unnamed author of a 2x4 plate. The mount was printed using PLA, with 20% infill and thick walls. I found that no supports were necessary for this print setting. My printer performed well with the 0.200 mm resolution. However, I did need to drill out the holes in my print because my printer is not able to print accurate circles. V1 Info: This Lego-compatible mount holds a Tamiya 70168 Double Gearbox (https://www.pololu.com/product/114). This model is for the Tamiya double gearbox that most people search for. Assembly: The mount is a snap-fit design, where the gearbox slides into place with little resistance. You will need to apply some force to snap it into its final position. Inspect the fit by looking down through the screw holes in the tabs; they align with the gearbox's mounting tabs. Notes: 1) Due to my printer's backlash issue, the side tab holes are slightly larger than Lego specifications. 2) There are hidden models within the SKP file. The STL file contains only the mount design. 3) Although I used Sketchup, I was able to find accurate Tamiya designs on 3dwarehouse. 4) I printed the model in PLA; it is unknown whether ABS will work well.
