Taller Tesla Model 3 phone dock
thingiverse
This is a piece designed to replace the cover for the phone charger dock on a Tesla Model 3, allowing thicker phones and phones with thicker cases to fit into the notch and connect to the charger. It adds about 4mm more height - possibly too much for others, but it fits perfectly with my Mophie Juice Pack case on my iPhone 6S. If people want a slightly shorter version that adds only 2mm more height, I can create another one. It slots in just like the original version from Tesla by pulling up on the charging dock hinge and then sliding the current piece left to remove it, followed by inserting the new one and sliding right to add it. To match the piano glossy black finish you would need an exceptional 3D printer or for most of us with normal printers, I recommend covering it with glossy black vinyl. The VVivid XPO glossy black vinyl available on Amazon for $7 works well. Alternatively, I suggest visiting a hobby store as they usually sell glossy black vinyl sticker sheets. For my car, I covered the center console with matte black VVivid vinyl and then added a piece of matte vinyl over the 3D printed part to match the rest of the console exactly. You will likely require support to print the tabs, but because the overhangs are small enough you might be able to get away without it if you have a fan blowing and your printer running at a slower speed. Note - edited on 7/24: Based on feedback in the comment section, I created two newer revisions called "thinner" and "no_wall". The thinner version removes 1mm, while the no_wall version eliminates the separation wall altogether. I'm going to delete the original version because I think these two new versions are better.
