Talkabout Holder

Talkabout Holder

I have a trusty set of Motorola Talkabout radios that I break out occasionally when I'm hitting the trails in my 4x4. Most times, I rely on my CB radio, but occasionally someone in our group will be without one and we'll fall back to a FRS or GMRS radio instead. So, I whipped up a holder that clips onto a standard phone mount ball, keeping the radio right at hand. The radio's got an unusual shape, so it doesn't sit perfectly in the holder. That's why I added some sticky-backed foam, just like what you'd use to seal a door, to give it a snug fit. Now, when it comes to tightening things down, I'm using an 8-32 x 1 1/4" hex head machine bolt and an 8-32 nut. You might need to whittle the edges on that handle and ball mount with a razor knife before you can get the bolt to fit and the mount to snap onto the ball. I've attached the holder to an M-Pow CD phone mount ball for this shot, but it'll work just as well on any other standard ball.
