The Formosan black bear is a subspecies of the Asiatic black bear that's uniquely found in Taiwan, known to locals as the white-throated bear. This distinct creature has been voted the most representative wildlife of Taiwan through a six-month long countrywide voting campaign back in 2001. Furthermore, they are the largest land animals and the sole native bears within Taiwan, belonging to the Ursidae family.
