Taig 2019 Y-axis extension
grabcad
The unused 0.75" lead screw on Taig's Y axis can be utilized by fitting a spacer, enhancing mill travel from 5.5 inches to 6.25 inches (a 13% increase). However, exceeding 0.75" may cause chatter when milling hard materials like metals; wax or wood machining won't be problematic. To install the spacer, turn off power and remove the spindle & motor. Unscrew the dovetail and insert the spacer followed by reattaching the dovetail, spindle, and motor. Tram the headstock using newspaper shims for accurate readings. For the Y-axis adjustment, move it near the headstock and remove the two screws connecting the stepper motor to the lead screw. Carefully pull the motor and table to slide the screw towards you. Insert spacers and new screws, ensuring tightening. Adjust control software to accommodate increased distance.
