This is an OpenSCAD generator for Tafl boards and pieces, designed to facilitate the creation of six variants of the Tafl games popularized by Norse and Celtic peoples. Boards feature raised tiles by type, enabling users to change filament during printing to alter colors. From lowest to highest elevation, tile types are arranged in the following order: Normal Square, Attacker Pawn, Defender Pawn, Corner, Throne. Future plans include expanding the generator with additional board variants, pieces, and styles of boards, so be sure to keep an eye out for these updates. Brandubh This 7x7 variant was played in Ireland and is mentioned twice in ancient poetry. Ard Ri This 7x7 variant represents a possible Scottish tafl game reconstruction. Tablut The 9x9 Tablut variant boasts the distinction of being the best-documented Tafl game, with partial rules recorded by Carl Linnaeus as far back as 1732. Tawlbwrdd This 11x11 variant originated in Wales and was sparsely documented in 1587 by Robert ap Ifan. Hnefatafl Hnefatafl is an 11x11 reconstruction of the tafl game played by Viking warriors. The Fetlar rules are used for the Hnefatafl World Championships on Fetlar, a Shetland island, while the Copenhagen rules, designed to address shortcomings in the Fetlar rules, govern the Internet Hnefatafl Championships. Alea Evangelii The massive 19x19 Alea Evangelii variant was documented by a 12th-century Anglo-Saxon manuscript. This board's piece placement follows the Murray reconstruction style, and its layout can be reconfigured using the source code if desired.
