Rener (1993) Introduced the open circle point symbol from Tactile Cartography: Another View of Tactile Cartographic Symbols, The Cartographic Journal, 30:2, 195-198. This shape has a rounded top surface and is one of five point symbols found in at least three studies to be highly readable for people with visual impairments. It was originally designed to have a diameter of 0.5 centimeters.
