This is a cheap tachometer solution that I currently use with my Emco Maximat 11CD .The encoder disk can be configured with 1/2/3/4/6 or 12 magnes depending on the resolution wanted. (Note: MAKE SURE TO GET THE MAGNET POLARITY RIGHT haha....)I used 12ea 2mm dia 1mm thick magnets but I suggest that you get some stronger ones ;)With touchDRO settings adjusted to 13 pulses/rev it works ok but with a bitt erratic readings.I will later try with stronger magnets and maybe reducing the count of magnets to se if that works better. A new encoder/magnet wheel is now uploaded, this wheel takes up to 3ea 8mm dia 5mm thick magnets. (Will update this text when tested). The arm for holding the Hall PCB (3144 Hal and LM393 Comparator for TTL level shifting) A common board that can be found almost anywhere I got mine from Am..... The Arm hex-round bushing slips on to the hex polar for the side cover of the lathe and the arm sits on that bushing. When adjusted you lock everything in position with a screw. The Arm has no pre-made holes for setscrew or PCB attaching screw so you just drill those where it fits your installation. When PCB is installed and tested OK, I suggest you to cower it with epoxy (except LM393 sensor face). to gain some environmental protection. I soldered my leads directly to the PCB .I printed my version in PLA but I guess you can use whatever material or even machine it if you want.
