As a result, this remarkable plant has evolved to survive without traditional leaves - its "green" areas are instead shielded by thick, protective bark layers that safeguard it from the deadly radiation. It also boasts a few menacing thorns, a clever defense mechanism that warns potential predators: "Touch me and you'll regret it!"
