Tablet Wall Mount (for Magsafe charging)

Tablet Wall Mount (for Magsafe charging)

This is a slim wall mount for a tablet. It's designed to support Magsafe charging, and it works well with the Fire 10 HD Plus tablet. This is a replacement face plate for the Arlington DVFR1W-1 recessed outlet box. I recreated the stock face plate in OnShape, and then modified it to hold a Magsafe charger. I use a Wtuhu brand Magsafe charger, which press-fits nicely into the face plate. The diameter of the Magsafe cut-out is 59.660mm.This design also features a hidden “shelf”, which is the top edge of the face plate. The idea is that you can glue the tablet strip part to the back of the tablet, and when mounted this will rest on the top edge of the face plate. The top edge of the face plate and the tablet strip are beveled 20 degrees so that gravity helps pull the tablet flush against the face plate, but it's still very easy to just pull the tablet off the wall when needed. This shelf is optional, but it provides three things: Increased vertical support (not relying only on the Magsafe magnet). The magsafe magnet alone will hold the tablet up, but not strongly enough for my liking.Simple/easy horizontal leveling when putting the tablet on the wallIt also makes it very easy to align the Magsafe magnet. Just slide the tablet down onto the hidden “shelf”, and then slide it over until the Magsafe snaps in place. Overall, even with the shelf, the back of the tablet is only 3mm from the wall, and sits very secure. If you're familiar with Onshape, you can locate these public models by searching “Tablet Wall Mount - Fire HD 10”, and then you're free to make a copy and customize! The parts I used for this build:Fire HD 10 Plus (the “Plus” model is required for wireless charging)Arlington DVFR1W-1 recessed outlet boxWtuhu brand Magsafe chargerJourney brand adhesive magnetic Magsafe ring (to attached to back of tablet)Commercial Electric smart outlet (to prevent the tablet from staying at 100% charge). I use this with HomeAssistant manage the charging between 40% and 80%. This was $18 at Home Depot, but it relies on a cloud service (integration exists for HomeAssistant). There are probably better options. The little black charging block in the picture is some old Amazon-branded low-wattage  charger that fits in there nicely.  I would be careful not to use high-wattage fast charging, as it generates a ton of heat and the magsafe charger will disable itself if it gets too hot. Some Romex wire and wire nuts to install the new outlet and wire it into the power from the light switch box below.Print settings:Material: PLA seems to work nicelyLayer height: .2mmInfill: 15% with grid pattern along with 5 shell layers seems to be plenty strongSupports: none
