If you're anything like me, scraps of filament start piling up all over my work area. This tool helps turn an ordinary zip-top plastic bag into a functional trash receptacle for the edge of a 3D printing table or workspace. While it's not exclusively designed for this use, the endless supply of small pieces of scrap filament makes it especially useful in this situation. Since the tool is situated under the edge of the table, you can easily sweep away any scraps that land on it into the bag without having to physically pick them up first. The latest version includes a spring-loaded table clamp and reinforced components that make it more durable than its predecessor. This item's performance hinges largely on proper measurement and configuration. To ensure a seamless fit, enter your table thickness into the customizer, allowing it to generate the correct gap size. Once you've got these measurements accurate, produce an STL file for the design, and print two units accordingly. Minimal infill should suffice, given that these parts aren't subject to much weight-bearing stress. Opting for ABS as your filament material will facilitate the spring-like behavior needed for a secure table fit. If it feels slightly loose or wobbly after printing, narrow down the gap a tad; however, keep in mind that this may compromise its ability to print rapidly and with minimal support needs, resulting in more wasted filament. My most recent printouts used standard ABS, yet some minor adjustments might be necessary for best results. Although no additional cooling settings were required, feel free to tinker with them as needed. As an aside, the current iteration accommodates a typical sandwich bag, while potentially accommodating various size zip-top bags depending on your specific requirements. Once you've installed it and slipped in a freshly zipped bag, take care to push its edges firmly into place by folding it over before snapping on end clips - this subtle trick enables you to keep it safely seated without unnecessary sag or movement.
