Table Top Base for Cowboy Studio Lights
thingiverse
I wanted to be able to position my studio lights closer and on a tabletop surface, so I printed these models. Expect to see new photo styles over the coming weeks as I work out optimal settings in the production room. I will post test shots and share actual shots on this platform. Print Settings Printer: Original Prusa i3 MK2 Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.15mm Infill: 25% Notes: The only support I used and didn't need was for the 3mm hole to receive a set screw. But the tolerance was very tight, so I don't really need the set screw at all. Post-Printing Painting I cleaned up each print with a hobby knife, 320 grit sandpaper and a mini file. One coat of primer and one coat of paint were applied to each print. Total post-processing time was 30-45 minutes max for all three prints. How I Designed This Hardware sizing and planning Since the hardware I'm implementing from the tripod mounts is a simple cylinder, I started by creating a cylinder in Blender to match the diameter and depth of the part. I added a second cylinder object with dimensions equal to the first plus the thickness of four perimeters from my printer. My printer prints the outside perimeter at 0.55mm width, so it will actually be 2.20mm wall thickness. Next, I made one loop cut in the center, turned on smooth proportional editing, grabbed the bottom edge and scaled it on the X,Y axis to a predetermined diameter. After that, I turned off proportional editing, grabbed the loop cut in the center and beveled it to make the base visually appealing.
