The tabla, a membranophone percussion instrument, originated from Indian Sufi saint Amir Khusro and is employed in Hindustani classical music. Consisting of two contrasting-sized drums, this instrument's name comes from an Arabic term "tabl," meaning "drum." It's also featured in folk and sufi poetry performances, as well as the Indonesian dangdut genre. Additionally, it is used in some other Asian musical traditions outside of India. The tabla shares similarities with its Afro-Cuban/Latin-American counterparts, such as bongos.
