Sometimes it's tough to tell if autoleveling is actually making a difference because the Z movements are so minuscule. In the past, I'd stick a piece of tape to my Z lead screw just to check if the screw was turning, but now that I have a 3D printer, I thought I'd create something like a small flag on top of the lead screw instead.\r\n\r\nUse the longer flag if you've got enough space for it to turn - it makes the lead screw's movement much easier to see.
