T-Scann 8 Mod - Pinch roller
thingiverse
This thing is intended to have the same function as the pinch roller in a cassette tape player, but for the R8/S8 films handled by the [T-Scann 8 film scanner](https://tscann8.torulf.com/index.html). It pushes the film against the scanner capstain in order to minimize the number of times the film slides on the capstan, improving the overall scan process accuracy. However, there is no magic and, depending on the condition of your films, the grip of the capstan-pinch roller ensemble will degrade over time. My personal experience is that every 5000 frames or so I have to clean both the capstan and pinch roller (I use isopropanol 99.9%), and that keeps a good grip for the next 5000 frames. About the thing itself, it is composed of 4 pieces to allow shifting the outer part of the cilinder in order to put the film between the capstan and pinch roller without having to force it in. The flat piece is optional; I printed it in red and glued it on top of the main cilinder in order to have a visual indicator that the piece that locks everything together is there before starting to scan.
