INTRO
Once again I have run out of room on my game shelf and need to save some space by integrating a few expansions with the original game boxes... T.I.M.E. Stories is up next! This insert holds the original game, allows you to save your progress nicely, has space for 3 expansions... and the lid still closes flush! This insert packs a lot into the original box, so there are a number of quite fiddly parts, but it ends up being extremely space efficient. There is some fiddly construction involved to get the colored banding on the player trays, but nothing too complicated - jigs are provided that will make things easier. Also there is an alt layout that's a bit easier to access if you don't need the extra space for another expansion.
MATERIALS
You will need... - White PLA for the main components (I used a matt white for extra classiness). - Stiff, white card for the board insert. - Revel Contacta (or similar plastic welding glue) for assembling the player trays. - UHU (or similar general-purpose adhesive) for assembling the main board insert. Optional - Pink, Mellon Yellow, Green and Dark Blue PLA for the colored Player Tray Bases. - Silver PLA for the colored logo on the lid.
PARTS LIST
Yeah, there are a lot of parts... but there's nothing too complex, and they all fit together like a beautiful, space-efficient jigsaw... * Big Dice - holds the Time Captain Die and Time Token. * Board Corner x 4 - for the top insert that holds the board. * Board Side x 4 - for the top insert again... N.B. these are slightly concave along one axis for easy gripping... the flat side goes alongside the board / box edge. * Card Back, Front & Middle - holds all the cards, split into three parts for smaller printers. * Card Secondary - holds even more cards. * Deck Separators 1-4 - print as many as you need... the tabs are at different positions on each model. * Group Token Holder - slots in behind the main card holder. * Player Holder - holds the large Agent Pawns. * Player Tray Base x 4 - print these in the 4 player colors. * Player Tray Top x 4 - hold the small Agent Pawns and any cards and tokens. * Player Top Base - the bottom of the lid for the Player Tray stack. * Player Top Top - the top of the lid - swap filament while printing to get a nice 2-tone effect. * Player Tray Jig - print this out quickly to help align the top & bottom of the trays. * Shield Holder (Double) - holds the Normal Shields * Shield Holder (Short) - holds the Time, Heart & Special Shields * Shim - pop it in the center of the box to reduce wobble (I measured wrong!) * Special Tray - can be hidden underneath the Secondary Card holder. Shhhhhh! * State Tray - holds the State Tokens. * Time Peg x 2 - for keeping track of time when saving. * Time Remaining - what the pegs slot into. * Token Holder Long - holds the brown and yellow Resource Tokens. * Token Holder Short - holds the blue and green Resource Tokens. * Life Holder - holds the Life Tokens. * Token Lid (Lower) - Be sure to get the lids the right way round. * Token Lid (Upper) - The other lid. * Action Dice - Holds the Action Dice at a 45 degree angle. * Log Separator - A special separator for saving.
TECHNIQUE
Most parts can be printed off fairly easily. I recommend using a raft for the Player Tray Bases, as they are quite thin - just be careful when you separate them. To attach the lids and bases, apply the Contacta sparingly then use the jig to line the pieces up and press them together. For the Player Trays you can add a little more Contacta around the inside to strengthen the weld. Be sure to make the jig out of the same PLA you use for the trays, otherwise the Contacta can bleed the color onto the white surfaces. To get the silver logo on the main lid, you have to swap filament halfway through. And to do the board holder you will need some stiff, white card - cut it to the size of the box, then pop the board in the middle and use UHU to glue the holders in place. Note that the side holders are concave along two edges to for a little handle for easy lifting - the flat sides should be facing the board/box wall.
ALT LAYOUT
There is also an alternate layout that is closer to the remix source material. If you don't have so many expansions this is a bit easier to print and provides a quicker game set-up. Don't print the following parts... * Big Dice * Card Secondary * Group Token Holder * Shield Holder (Double) * Shield Holder (Short) * Special Tray * State Tray * Time Peg * Time Remaining * Token Holder Long * Token Holder Short * Life Holder * Token Lid (Lower) * Token Lid (Upper) * Action Dice Do print these instead... * ALT Components Lid Base * ALT Components Lid Top (this is another lid that you should switch filament on roughly halfway) * ALT Dice Tray * ALT Group Token Holder * ALT Special Tray * ALT State Tray * ALT Token Tray
THANKS
Special thanks to James McIlhargey and Romain Serreau who made the original designs upon which this is based. That's it for now - good luck with your build!
