T-800 Head Base - hollow for electronics and battery, 2 parts, with bottom plate
thingiverse
Update: 22 April 2018: Version 2.0. - Perfect snap-fit of the bottom cover now works so well it's hard to open again, making adjustments necessary - perhaps by adjusting the position of the rim a smidgen, about 0.5 mm. - Separate print of the T-800 logo with pegs at the back for push-in fit now made with holes slightly bigger in the base for easier insertion. You can see one photo showing original hole size that didn't allow full insertion, prompting adjustment of the base's hole size for the pegs. - The separate T-800 sign design allows printing it in a different color or material. - I removed the odd bottom from the rim (green in the sketches) to create a proper rim. Redesign of the excellent "Base T-800 by GhoTiC". Files available in *.stl and *.3mf format (*.3mf for free Windows 3D Builder, if you want to edit things). I recently printed a hollow high-res version of the T-800 head and needed a cool base for it. This is perfect except I would like to hide away the Arduino Nano and battery used to make the head's eyes pulse-glow ominously - every few minutes it goes full red, then blinks like human eyes do, then returns to pulse-glow. Using free Windows 3D Builder: - Cut off lower part of base - Hollowed out the base - Added a rim so top part sits snugly on bottom part - Turned top part upside down for amazing glass/mirror-like finish I want when printing on my glass bed (see photo) The bottom part remains unmerged. It consists of two parts, the bottom and the rim part. Maybe someone clever can figure out how to create a snap-fit design? Edit: Added additional files where bottom part is merged - noticed Cura doesn't like unmerged version at all while S3D has no issues. Note: Only drawback of this method is that T-800 part may sag if you don't use supports. Don't trust your slicer to make that decision correctly, S3D clearly didn't. It supported the dash and inside of 8 properly but not the rest, leading to visible sag. See screenshot of supports auto-created by Cura (3.2.1) for what good supports should look like. I wonder if T-800 part could be printed separately and somehow clipped into place? Open for suggestions.
