The T-55 and T-54 tanks are a series of Soviet main battle tanks that were introduced after World War II. The first T-54 prototype was finished at Nizhny Tagil by the end of 1945. Initial production started in 1947 at Nizhny Tagil, but it slowed down in 1948 at Kharkiv due to many problems being found; the T-34-85 still made up 88 percent of all tanks produced through the 1950s. The T-54 eventually became the main tank for Soviet Army armored units, Warsaw Pact countries' armies, and many others. T-55s and T-54s have been involved in some of the world's biggest armed conflicts since the late 20th century.
