It stood out as one of the most successful tank designs of the 1930s until its armour became vulnerable to newer anti-tank guns. Over 11,000 units were manufactured, making it the most produced tank of the period. The USSR developed a total of 53 variants of the T-26 during the 1930s, including tanks equipped with flame throwers, combat engineer vehicles, remotely controlled tanks, self-propelled guns, artillery tractors and armoured carriers. Twenty-three of these variants were mass-produced, while others remained experimental models.
