It was based on the British Vickers 6-Ton tank design and became one of the most successful tank designs of the 1930s until its light armor made it vulnerable to new anti-tank guns. Over 11,000 units were manufactured, making it the most produced tank of its time. During the 1930s, the USSR created 53 different variants of the T-26, including flame-throwing tanks, combat engineer vehicles, remotely controlled tanks, self-propelled guns, artillery tractors, and armored carriers. Twenty-three of these were mass-produced, while others were experimental models.
