Synthbox 1
thingiverse
I'm upgrading my rig for gigs with a custom box that simplifies everything. It's like a Fishman Tripleplay FC-1 controller, but better in my opinion as I play guitar. I've got a great Rainsong carbon fiber acoustic with a Fishman Prefix onboard pre-amp and a Fishman FTP Synth Pickup that has a wireless USB receiver. Along with two floor-based USB midi foot controllers, and four expression pedals with 1/4" stereo connectors in my rig. All those little boxes and USB connectors are a real pain to haul to gigs, set up, and tear down - they're also super fragile. This box lets me plug everything into one unit instead of connecting five separate boxes on the floor. The most important connections are hardwired inside the box, rather than relying on fragile external micro-USB connectors. I plug my guitar and expression pedals directly in, then a cable from it to the PA. This custom-built box has a real AC power cord - no wall warts needed! All I do is plug in the FTP at the top, along with USB cables (type B, which are somewhat rugged) to the midi controllers. There's a USB 3.0 port and a separate iPad charging output that connect to my iPad. The box contains a 3-channel Expression-Pedal-to-USB converter, an IRIGHD2 Guitar-to-USB audio converter, two USB power supplies, and a 7-channel USB hub, all in one compact unit. I'm sharing the STL files (not the fusion files) for this "thing." I doubt anyone will want to print this exact box, but maybe seeing it will inspire someone grappling with similar complexity and problems to try combining circuit boards from existing devices into a single, simplified box that makes sense for them.
