Symmetric, Parametric Shelf Clip

Symmetric, Parametric Shelf Clip

thingiverse

At Thingiverse, multiple clips caught my eye but didn't fit my shelving requirements or had aesthetic issues. Thus, I decided to learn SCAD and created a shelf unit just in time for Christmas stockings. Share your experience if you made one and report any issues or suggestions. I emphasized strength with minimal clip size and plastic usage while ensuring easy printability. As a mechanical engineering novice, feel free to provide feedback! The uploaded STL file has 25.6mm shelves; however, customization is possible by editing the variables in the downloadable .scad file. Printing is straightforward using default settings. Precise caliper measurements are crucial for accurate fitting. This project showcases 3D printing's potential for creating custom-fit, one-off solutions surpassing mass-produced, one-size-fits-all products. Key parameters in the .scad file include TABLE_THICKNESS (large clip size), CLIP_LENGTH (distance of clip arms on the shelf), CLIP_HEIGHT (z height representing clip width), and CLIP_THICKNESS (x,y structural elements thickness). HOOK_RATIO determines small hooks' size relative to the main clip, with a maximum of about .63 for non-overlapping side clips. The variable eps is a small number not recommended for modification, as it affects certain calculations and clip tolerance.
