Sydney Opera House

Sydney Opera House

I visited the Sydney Opera House's spectral structure with my cousins. From a distance, it takes your breath away, but up close, its magnificence is even more breathtaking. It's hard to imagine how an architect visualized such an abstract design, and even harder to think about how it was built. The Sydney Opera House boasts a very original and creative design, which I wanted to capture in my model. This incredible man-made marvel of the world leaves me excited to share this work-in-progress prototype with you. Printed on a Prusa i3 Einstein from Marko's Hub, check out SKP images of my new model in progress. The roof tops' curves had to be developed creatively because they were taken as slices of an oval sphere and matched to the Sydney Opera House's actual shape. I compared my pieces to a Google Earth model, but the original couldn't be used because it had too many internal structures and hidden geometry, which caused printing failures, so I designed my own model. The rest of the model was challenging to construct. Initially, I thought I could simply connect the rooftops and create one solid model, but I was mistaken. I forgot about the pieces in between, and the one solid model failed. Therefore, I had to copy the roof and create another shell, giving the roof thickness and allowing it to print instead of just being lines. Then, I tried to replicate the base of the structure as the original Sydney Opera House, but that attempt also failed. For now, I've used a circle as a base, similar to other people who have made an opera house model, but I'm working on a more realistic base for this structure. Through this experience, I've learned a lot about 3D modeling and new software, not to mention numerous new techniques. I hope you enjoy my adaptation of the Sydney Opera House, and keep an eye out for updates in the future.
